OHIP PHYSIOTHERAPY

OHIP physiotherapy helps individuals manage and recover from injuries, surgeries, chronic conditions, and disabilities, ensuring access to essential rehabilitative care without financial barriers for eligible Ontarians.

OHIP Physiotherapy: Comprehensive Care Through Referral, Assessment, and Tailored Treatment

Patients typically require a referral from a physician or nurse practitioner outlining treatment goals. Physiotherapists assess conditions and develop tailored treatment plans, encompassing exercises, manual therapy, and education. OHIP covers a specified number of sessions per condition, delivered in hospitals, community clinics, or at home as needed. Progress is monitored closely to adjust treatment plans for optimal recovery and improved mobility, ensuring accessible and comprehensive care statewide.

OHIP Physiotherapy service is only available at our Brampton location.

Are you eligible for OHIP?

To be eligible for OHIP physiotherapy coverage in Ontario, individuals typically fall into one of several categories: those aged 19 years and under, adults aged 65 years and older, recipients of Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) benefits, or individuals receiving assistance through Ontario Works (OW). Eligibility requires a referral from a physician or nurse practitioner outlining specific treatment goals. Once referred, physiotherapists assess the patient's condition and develop personalized treatment plans that may include exercises, manual therapy techniques, and educational components. OHIP covers a set number of sessions per condition, which can be delivered in various settings such as hospitals, community clinics, or in-home visits, depending on the patient's needs.

Physiotherapy is covered by Ontario's OHIP for seniors (65 and over), children under 19, and anybody enrolled in social assistance programs like Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program. In order to utilize these treatments, you often require a reference from a specialist or family physician attesting to the treatment's medical necessity. Certain community health centers, public hospitals, and physiotherapy clinics with OHIP accreditation offer physiotherapy that is covered by the program. The physiotherapist and the referring doctor do an initial assessment, which determines the treatment plan, including the number of sessions covered.

If you match the eligibility requirements, there is usually no direct cost for the sessions themselves; however, there may be additional fees for materials or services that are not covered by OHIP.

Depending on the needs of the patient and the treatment plan, different sessions may be reimbursed in different amounts. It is best to speak with your healthcare provider or a physiotherapy clinic that has received OHIP accreditation for specific information regarding coverage and the projected number of sessions.
